Holidays to India re-start

By | Category: Travel destinations

For the last eighteen months or so travelling to India has been out of the question for most of us.

each state may have different COVID-19 rules so check

That has now changed and flights and holiday offers will be re-starting as from November 15th although some charter flights have been available already.

About a million people living in the UK visit India each year in normal times making it a bigger destination for Britons than Australia or Canada, twice as big as Malta and eight times as big as Croatia.

Just under 10% of all international travellers to India come from the UK

Readers will remember however that in a tit-for-tat exchange earlier this month, India announced that it would introduce a ten day quarantine period for visitors coming from the UK.

It could be that that the rule disappears before the first flights begin but passengers should factor this in with their travel plans in case it isn’t lifted.

The Indian government has just started issuing visas again for international visitors but as it is electronic there should be no delay in applying and receiving approval for your visa.

Old style British passports are not acceptable and you should have a machine readable one with two blank pages for your visa and it should be valid for a minimum of 180 days at the time of your visa application. You will be denied entry if your passport is not machine readable.

At present you will have to upload a negative PCR test result before departing the UK and face another PCR test on arrival, (and you’ll have to pay for this,) await the resulst and if negative you can start to enjoy your visit.

|In addition you will have to upload travel and contact details before arrival.

But the rules may change so check regularly to see what the British and Indian governments announce
