Tui throws down the gauntlet

Look at TUI UK’s website and it won’t be a holiday that is the first thing that will catch your eye.

It is the fact that it is offering COVID tests at prices that are much lower than figures normally quoted.

Behind it lies TUI’s undoubted concern that the price of getting tests for all the family might discourage people from booking holidays.

If you are considering an overseas holiday this year it isn’t just the price of the holiday that you will have to take into account. On top of that is the price of all tests that you will have to take and the implications of quarantining if you visit certain destinations. Until we know which countries have been gazetted as red, amber or green, you won’t know what prices you might have to pay and what inconveniences you will have to face.

Equally you don’t yet know whether the tests that Tui is making available in its packages will fulfil the demands of the country you are visiting and what the British government will insist for your return.

Tui has four packages and this is how they word it on their website;

GREEN – £20 per person. Contains 1x pre-departure antigen (rapid flow) test for your journey back from your holiday destination and 1x PCR test for day two after you return home.
GREEN+ – £60 per person. Contains 1x PCR test for your journey to your holiday destination, with courier costs seven days a week included, 1x pre-departure antigen (rapid flow) test and 1x PCR test for day two after you return home.
AMBER – £50 per person. Contains 1x pre-departure antigen (rapid flow) test and 2x PCR tests for days 2 and 8 after you return home.
AMBER+ – £90 per person. Contains 1x PCR test for your journey to your holiday destination, with courier costs seven days a week included, 1x pre-departure antigen (rapid flow) test for your journey back from your holiday destination and 2x PCR tests for days 2 and 8 after you return home.

Now we will just have to wait until later in the day when the government announces what the rules are and what country is in which traffic light so that we can work out what the costs of a holiday abroad will be this year.

One thing you can bet.

Now that Tui has made this pricing decision, other tour operators and airlines will match or better it in order to attract your business!
