A present for the staff

As a final story before Christmas day I thought Just about Travel would enter into the yuletide spirit by running a good news story.Whilst it has been hard for many people around the world in this irksome and grisly year, the travel industry has taken a real hit. Hundreds of thousands of jobs have been lost worldwide and people who thought they would have jobs in an ever-growing travel industry soon realised that wouldn’t be the case.

It was only eighteen months ago that a shortage of pilots was thought to be a real problem for future growth. Now pilots with hundreds of hours of experience are awaiting an upturn. Cabin crew have been similarly affected as have all staff who work in travel.

The only growth area has been in customer services as they are needed to issue refunds!

It is uplifting then to report that the German based airline, Eurowings, has remembered its staff and what they have had to endure by taking one of their planes and painted it to thanks their staff for all their forbearance and help.

An Airbus A320 of the airline has been re-painted to say thanks to the “best team in the world” in both German and English.

The boss of Eurowings, Jens Bischof, says that the airline is “…saying thank you in an extraordinary way in a likewise extraordinary year: with a team airplane for the entire staff.”

Yes, I know that this is a bit cheesy and that it gains some publicity for an airline at a time when most airline news has been bad. But did Ryanair or EasyJet, British Airways or TUI Airways think of the idea? How are they thanking their staff?
