Bettys in Harrogate won the Outstanding Customer Service award

A few days ago in Harrogate another tourism awards ceremony took place, this time the White Rose Awards which celebrate achievements in Yorkshire.

Few people would not remember the event that won the award for Tourism Event of the Year. It was the return of the Flying Scotsman which, on its return from London to the National Railway Museum in York encouraged thousands of sightseers even causing the train to stop because people were on the line.

The best small attraction was the National Centre for Birds of Prey in Helmsley and the award in the large attraction category went to the Yorkshire Sculpture Park near Wakefield.  Two years ago the park was the winner of the Art Fund Museum of the Year  competition.  The Yorkshire Young Sinfonia won the Arts and Culture Award.

The Taste of Yorkshire award went to Keelham Farm Shop in Thornton. They can add this trophy to the won they picked up as Best Food & Drink Business at the Rural Business Awards 2016. The Restaurant of the Year – as it was last year – was The Hare Restaurant in Scawton, the Best Restaurant with Rooms was The Star Inn at Harome and the Coach and Horses in Harrogate was voted Pub of the Year.

Earlier this year, Sloemotion won the Best Product Award for their Bramble Whisky at the Scottish Speciality Food Show. Now they have another gong. They won the category for Best Maker and Producer. For those not in North Yorkshire or near to the M62 corridor you will find it difficult to buy Sloemotions products. If you can find it, try a taste otherwise you’ll have to settle for ordering online before you can taste the products!

In the accommodation categories, Best Self-catering Accommodation was Cottage in the Dales and the Best Caravan and Holiday Park was Wolds Edge Holiday Lodges in York. The Pheasant Hotel in Harome near Helmsley (that’s two awards for this small village) won Best Small Hotel whilst the winner in the large hotel category went to The Devonshire Arms Hotel and Spa at Bolton Abbey. Low Mill Guesthouse in Bainbridge won Best Guest House Accommodation.

As a vital source of information for visitors, the staff in tourist information centres perform an important role in providing local knowledge, tips and ideas. This year the top award for Visitor Information went to Hebden Bridge Visitor Centre. The other category that should be so important to visitors is that relating to customer service. Anyone who has ever been there will realise why Bettys Café Tea Rooms in Harrogate won the award for outstanding customer service
