Blackpool Pleasure Beach

Last year the town and resort lunched a publicity campaign and it’s worked. An additional 200,000 people visited the popular seaside destination.

This year, Blackpool has decided to remind us that it is back with #BlackpoolsBack although I doubt whether anyone would know that it has been away! This time it is emphasising what the family can see when they visit including the new Sky Force at the Pleasure Beach, a new interactive viewing experience in the Tower and Olly Murs’ as the latest arrival at Madamne Tussauds, the fact that CATS, the Andrew Lloyd-Webber musical is also running over the summer at the Winter Garden’s Opera House Theatre should make this a bumper summer for the resort.

The family is the key to the appeal that the town is making. Every age will find something to occupy and attract them. Blackpool doesn’t necessarily want to be a luxury resort or a niche one, just a place where the whole family can enjoy themselves as has been in the past when Blackpool was the seaside resort.

Part of the success has to be due to the regeneration of the town over the last seven years but, equally, the marketing has been pretty impressive too. Remember last summer when they won a Guinness World Record for the world’s largest beach ball which the town staged on the beachfront? That generated world-wide publicity so Blackpool wants to build on that. A television campaign begins on the 19th of June as well as social media advertising and media competitions with prizes being stays in Blackpool.

Alan Cavill, Director of Place, said: “Blackpool attracts 13 million visitors a year and is the UK’s most visited seaside resort by some distance. With year two of the #BlackpoolsBack campaign, we are aiming to re-engage even more families that used to visit the resort, perhaps as youngsters themselves, as well as stimulating new visits from families and younger couples for whom Blackpool is simply not on their holiday radar.”

After last year’s efforts and this year’s, surely Blackpool will be on just about everybody’s radar.
