For those with access to London, Malaysia Week begins with the official opening in London on 21 September at the South Bank at 3pm. The event will be launched by the Honorable Dato’ Seri Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz, the Minister of Tourism and Culture Malaysia and the Mayor Councillor Abdul Mohamed of Southwark.

The festivities proper begin after that. Malaysia Cultural Week is a week-long cultural festival aimed at introducing and promoting Malaysia as a tourist attraction. This cultural fiesta will feature an exciting array of performances and traditional music of the multi-ethnic Malaysian society by skilled artists. There will be craft-making demonstrations depicting the rich legacy of Malaysia’s traditional craftsmanship and sales of craft products. Also featured will be a fashion show by Malaysian models attired in the Malaysian Batik and Songket textiles showcasing traditional and contemporary designs.

Malaysian artists will also be on hand, displaying artworks for sale at but there will also be museum artifacts, original Malay manuscripts and heritage items on display. Visitors will also have the opportunity to savour delicious and popular Malaysian cuisine as typical hawker fare. Traditional games will be showcased and visitors may join in the fun as well. There will also be a promotion of holiday and tour packages to Malaysia at the travel booths on site, especially in anticipation of Visit Malaysia Year 2014.
