The Downton Abbey effect hits UK hotel

It’s been over two years, but Brits continue to be inspired by hit TV show, Downton Abbey, from elbow length gloves and oversized hats, to buttoned-up coats and now, country manors for their Valentine’s getaways.

Since the show first aired in the UK in 2010, online reservation service, has seen a marked increase in Downton related searches.

Although set in a fictional Yorkshire country estate, searches for the Lincolnshire market town of Grantham saw the biggest spike overall – showing that Brits are pining for a piece of posh, no matter what the association.

With Valentine’s Day upon us, Brits, it seems, are keen for some post-Edwardian passion, has compiled a list of the top 10 country manor-style hotels that have been top of romantic Brits wish lists well in advance of this week’s love-fest.
