Holiday World Show opens in Belfast

By | Category: Travel news

Crissy Rock from ITV’s “Benidorm” opened the Holiday World Show in Belfast’s King’s Hall yesterday afternoon which is sponsored by the Belfast Telegraph. And talking to the exhibitors and visitors after the show had been open for about two hours they were happy. From the balcony it looked busy and not a lot of carpet could be seen. It looks like numbers will be up.
The travel show season is in full swing now with events this weekend in both Belfast and Manchester. Next week it’s Dublin and London in our countries as well as travel shows in Portland Oregon, Toronto, Chicago and Los Angeles. They all have one thing in common. People like them and are increasingly using them as a source of knowledge about what’s available. They also know that there are discount and offers available during them.
So it’s no surprise to find that 30,000 from all over Northern Ireland are expected to find their way this weekend (it’s open from 11am) to see what’s available. When you think of the population of the province that’s a huge number and much more in proportion than shows on the mainland get. Dublin’s, next week end, gets an even higher proportion.
So what’s new in Belfast this weekend? There is a special USA pavilion complete with an Uncle Sam figure wandering around on stilts and giving away jelly beans from United Airlines. There’s a new section devoted to those holidaymakers who are over 55 and there are some new exhibitors who’ve not been before. The caravan and mobile home section is still at the rear of the holiday part. The popular cruise area which started last year is slightly bigger this year and Belfast is majoring on all the Titanic events that are happening.
Add that to the traditional mix with stallholders selling local foodstuffs and it’s a winning mix.
