Crazy about Croatia

By | Category: Travel news

The Office of National Statistics recently revealed that more than a half million Britons are sacrificing foreign holidays because, given the economic doom and gloom, they just don’t have the budget to travel abroad.

Except that is, if your name’s Croatia. Speaking at the Croatian National Tourist Board Press Conference at WTM earlier today, Mr Damir Bajs, Croatia’s minister of tourism, announced that the country had experienced a five percent increase in the number of arrivals of British tourists.

What’s more, not only are we Brits following in Prince Harry’s footsteps (the Royal one was spotted partying up a storm on the island of Hvar over summer 2011), but we are spending much, much more than our continental cousins. Case in point? The average daily spending of British tourists amounts to 124EUR, which far exceeds the average of 58 EUR.

Croatia’s decision to join the EU (Croatia will soon become the 28th member of the beleaguered organisation) might be ill advised but clearly the country’s campaign slogan – ‘Come to Croatia’ – is a winner.
