Journey’s end: The Travel Bookshop closes its doors

By | Category: Travel news

CD Traveller is sad to report that The Travel Bookshop – made famous by Hugh Grant in the film Notting Hill – has gone into liquidation having been unable to find a buyer at the 11th hour, despite a string of support from celebrities including Alec Baldwin. The American actor, who starred in Notting Hill as Julia Roberts’ boyfriend, tweeted: “Sad news 4 everyone’s favourite bookshop from Notting Hill. Save the Travel Book Shop!!!”

The Portobello store will close its doors for good at the end of today. Sarah Anderson, who founded the Travel Bookshop in 1979 is working there today and invites old customers to swing by and bid the shop goodbye.
