Athletes appreciated the Commonwealth Games

There was a lot of criticism levelled at last month’s Commonwealth Games. Held in Delhi (India), the games were dogged by accusations of corruption and construction delays right up until the last minute. “Lots of the criticism was justified,” said Sh. Sultan Ahmed, India’s Minister of State for Tourism, “but ultimately we managed to hold a good games despite the internal problems.”

Speaking at World Travel Market, Sh. Sultan Ahmed was keen to stress that once the competition started the focus was on the sporting endeavours, and that the athletes themselves thoroughly enjoyed their time in Delhi. “The athletes’ level of enthusiam was evident for all to see during the closing ceremony,” said Sh. Sultan Ahmed. He added: ” The athletes were well looked after and appreciated the local cuisine and hospitality.”

And perhaps that’s all that really matters – after all, it’s the athletes for whom the competition was created.
