Wizarding World of Harry Potter

Today’s the day.
It’s the grand opening of Universal’s new theme park, The Wizarding World of Harry Potter. At Orlando in Florida, Universal have put a lot of time, effort and money (Universal won’t say how much but figures of close to $200 million have been bandied around) into creating a spectacular attraction that they are hoping will dazzle visitors from around the world.
Will it?
Last month they held a sneak preview from buyers around the world and the general view amongst world weary travel executives and journalists was that it would.

Within the theme park there are 3 different “experiences” that the visitor can go on. They are Forbidden Journey, Flight of the Hippogriff and Dragon Challenge. They are expecting such a crush of people today that at 11.30am our time, the car parks will open, much earlier than usual. The official opening is set for 2pm our time and you can expect to see it on our TV news tonight. Spotted in Orlando this week has been J.K. Rowling herself plus some of the actors from the films. You can bet Universal will try and outdo all the hype when it does come to the grand opening. They will want every actor who has ever been in the films to be around.
The opening virtually began two days ago when fireworks illuminated Hogwarts in the evening as music from the films was played to an audience that included Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Michael Gambon. But even before that visitors had been allowed in so that Universal could gauge reactions and resolve any bugs in the running of their biggest financial venture for over a decade. The local newspaper, Orlando Sentinel, runs the opening of the Wizarding World as the second major story only after the BP oil spill so you can see the effect it is having on Florida and Orlando in particular.
So in a couple of hour’s time, all the hype will be over as visitors can judge it for themselves. If you are visiting do let us have your thoughts. To see more of the Wizarding World of Harry Potter go to
