I Need Spain

That is the name of the new advertising campaign that is being launched by the Spanish Tourist Board at the end of this month. Some 13.8 million visitors went from the UK to Spain last year and we accounted for over a quarter of all tourism. Therefore Spain sees us as a very important market.
Spending €40 million (say about £36 million) this campaign will be worldwide and run until at least the world cup.
The approach that the advertising will take will be to focus on Spanish lifestyle.



Our Love Affair With Spain

From the late 1950’s when Benidorm launched itself as a tourist destination, we have loved going to Spain for our holidays. The seventies led to a string of comedy films and TV series exploiting our interest in Spain for a holiday. As Spanish resorts adapted to changing holiday wishes in the nineties and this decade it seemed our love affair would never end.
Some “experts” are now saying the appeal of Spain is declining and quote figures from the Spanish Tourism, Commerce & Industry Ministry which has announced that in 2009 8.1% fewer of us visited Spain.



A Taste of Spain. But Hurry

The Spanish Tourist Office has put together a new event in London. Previously it had hosted a show to sell its tourism to the travel trade. This year it has added a consumer element but you need to be quick to enjoy it. It started yesterday on the South bank in London near Borough Market at Green Dragon Court (nearest tube/mainline is London Bridge).There are stalls giving you samples of wine, cheese, chorizo and other food as well as information on Spain.
