Yesterday we reported that Brits were feeling pessimistic about 2012 travel prospects. If you’re one of the 25 percent who plan to spend less on travel next year, may we suggest a skiing holiday?

The winter sports business has seen fewer skiers on the slope over the last few years (there were 911,000 UK skiers on the piste last season compared to 1.2 million in 2007/8), but you could have fooled me if the turn out the 2011 Ski & Snowboard Show was anything to go by.

Had Enough of Snow?

If some of the ski holiday companies are to be believed some of us have got so enamoured of the white stuff that we are “inundating” (their word not mine) companies with enquiries about skiing holidays.
Can this be true? Haven’t they seen enough of the stuff? Have they forgotten already the need for clearing paths and roadways, waiting for non-existent trains and buses to get to work, delayed flights to take them to ski resorts and no milk in the villages because the delivery trucks can’t get through.

Yes I know. Summer isn’t properly here yet and I’m writing about skiing. But the glorious weather of last weekend has gone to be replaced by showery and rather cool weather. Not quite ski weather but the tour operators are out there already telling us that it will be more expensive this winter.The largest supplier of ski holidays, TUI, which has Thomson and Crystal in its portfolio has removed 36 chalets from this coming winter.
