The announcement by booking.com that its customer database seems to have been hacked will be of no comfort to those of us that opt to book online.
No, this isn’t a piece about all the things you can see in London in a day because, quite obviously there are too many sights for a day. No this is about the problems in advance booking a ticket to get and travel within London. If you use the National Rail or The Trainline websites to book your tickets you can get into London. But travelling within London is a problem.
According to research by TripAdvisor, price is the most important feature in selecting a fare and 85% of their respondents now buy their tickets online which should make travel agents worried.
Here we have some wonderful research that shows how sceptical the average traveller should be about sloppy conclusions like this.
Price is important but it interacts with some other things. The fact that the airline flies to the destination you want to go to; the fact that the airport is convenient to get to and that it goes approximately when you want to go all play a role.

But how satisfied are you with online booking?A company called iPerceptions has started a new quarterly study that will measure how satisfied we are with such booking sites and the very first report covering the first three months of the year has been published. It is a pretty comprehensive study since it covers 137,000 visitors to over 100 hospitality sites.
