Forty years ago, the then Poet Laureate, Sir John Betjeman, made a TV series called Metroland which explored the expansion of London into suburbia. It had a huge impact at the time and part of that is remembered this weekend at the Buckinghamshire Railway Centre.
To many people it can’t get any better. And if you can get to London Paddington this Saturday, you’ll see why. Although the home of the Ffestiniog & Welsh Highland Railway is usually well over a hundred miles away in the mountains of North Wales, one of its engines-Princess – sits like an exhibit between platforms 8 and 9 at Paddington.
