Stansted airport has come up with a sandwich which, it claims tastes better at altitude. It is aimed at people like me who are either unwilling to pay for meals on flights or reject the taste of them.

Last week I flew on BA for the first time in about six months. In that time BA has faced all the problems that airlines have had; increasing fuel prices and then hedging fuel at high prices or at high insurance rates, lower demand from its premium paying passengers and the difficulties of merging with Iberia (and before that, Qantas.)The last time I think I wrote about BA was after the Heathrow terminal 5 opening disaster which, by anybodies view, was a public relations foul-up

Over the years I’ve made of of comments about the food served on planes. But in The Times on Saturday, the comedian, Alexei Sayle, is quoted as saying that he is “fond” of airline meals.In the Food & Drink section of the paper, in a column called My Comfort Food, he calls airline food “reassuring” with its “indeterminate meat with vegetables of a colour not seen in nature…”.
