Back to Butlins

By | Category: Travel destinations

On the traditional and most well-known names in British holiday life – Butlins – has announced that it will re-open as from July 24. All three of their sites – Bognor Regis, Minehead and Skegness – will open for holidaymakers on that day.

It won’t be the first of the Bourne Leisure brands to open for business this summer – that was Haven which is already open in England and Wales and will re-open in Scotland as from the 17th of July.

The last of the trio to re-open will be Warner Leisure which will re-open all of its hotels in England on July 27th. It’s one hotel in Wales, Bodelwyddan Castle has no date for when it can start to see guests again but the announcement by the Welsh government that en-suite dining and outdoor dining can take place from the 13th of July might encourage Warner to open Bodelwyddan at the end of the month.

But the opening of the Butlins’ sites is probably the most significant since these see the greatest number of visitors.

The chalets of the fifties and sixties along with the Hi-di-Hi concept have long since been replaced by more modern features but ones that still attract a family audience.

Pools will be available and new outdoor stages have been built during the lockdown so that social distancing can be maintained. Indoor venues have been converted into cinema style theatres to show a range of pre-recorded, exclusive entertainment from our acts including Diversity and Rak-Su, the pantomime and Paddington.

In the restaurants, the buffets will remain but they will be boxed for you to take away. And, Butlins said, if you scoff that lot you can still return for more so the buffet concept remains. That will certainly please some of the people I know who are regular Butlins visitors!

If you have a booking from 24th of July until 7th of August you should have been contacted to see whether you are happy to take your holiday. If you aren’t then you have options including a full refund.

Holidaymakers who have booked outside of these days will be contacted closer to their booking times.
