Is Paris such a let-down?

The research Just about Travel published earlier today about the hold that images have on some holidaymakers was part of easyJet’s survey of what was the biggest of let-downs in Europe for travelers.

Mona Lisa – the biggest let-down for easyJet responders

The “let downs” threw up some interesting thoughts as well not the least of which concerned perhaps the most famous painting in the world, Mona Lisa, which is to be found in the Louvre in Paris. Valued in excess of $450 million (that was the sum paid for the last painting by Leonardo da Vinci that came onto the market) 86% of responders to the easyJet survey cited it as the biggest let-down in Europe with only 14% being awed by masterpiece.

Unfortunately, easyJet doesn’t tell us why it was such a let-down for its responders. It could be because the painting is much smaller than you would imagine. It could be because there are always so many people trying to view it that getting close to it can take a while. It could just mean that they aren’t very appreciative of art!

and the Eiffel Tower iis on the list along with the Louvre and the Moulin Rouge

It has to be said that the seventh biggest let-down for just over two-thirds of responders was the Louvre itself.

In fact, out of the top ten let-downs, Paris managed four the other two let-downs being the Moulin Rouge and the Eiffel Tower. It doesn’t stop Paris being one of the most visited cities in the world. Maybe other things in Paris appeal to easyJet responders but no, it has no attraction in the top ten of desirable locations in Europe to visit either.

But maybe Paris can console itself with the fact that whenever and wherever you ask people around the world which cities they want to visit most of all Paris is usually in the top three. Just not amongst EasyJet responders it seems!
