Destinations time

Last year, the Thaiiland stand was one of the biggest along with Trailfinders and Kuoni

January brings the consumer travel shows and they kick off today at Manchester’s Event City with Destinations.

Running until Sunday, this year there are thirty different tourist authorities attending, 170 brands are on display and there are hours of advice from the on the different stages. As usual “experts” will be hand to offer advice, the Food and Travel stages will provide you with recipes and food from countries and destinations and there will be a display of some of the images that competed in the Wanderlusr travel Photo of the Year. There are also photography masterclasses and the MASTA (Medical Advisory Service for Travellers Abroad) Travel Health Zone.

This year there are over thirty new exhibitors.

At the London show (held at Olympia) which is on from the 31st of January until the 2nd of February there are twice as many destinations exhibiting but the format is much the same. London is much more crowded but not to the point where you can’t easily see everything that you might want to. Also running this weekend in London’s Olympia is the Adventure Travel Show

Something different amongst the highlights there will be a seminar on guidance to help you plan your own motorcycle expedition from over landing experts Lois Pryce and Austin Vince.

With both shows on the weekend it has given avid holidaymakers a decision; go to one show and if so which one or try to attend both? There is an overlap of some exhibitors so it is probably best to go online and see the exhibition list before deciding on what to do.

This overlap is the only really overlap amongst the travel shows since the Destinations Show in London although it clashes with Holiday World in Dublin is unlikely to attract the same audience.

Nonetheless it would be useful in the future – particularly for those people living in the Midlands to have the two shows on different weekends.
