Lomas de Barbudel Waterfalls in Costa Rica might be one place you’ll go if you win

World Life Experience want applications from anyone interested in participating in a one-year journey around the world in 2019 which will take the lucky winners to all five continents. And it won’t even cost you more than the equivalent of a couple of cups of tea to pay the application fee. Applications have to be in by July 20th.

After that not only are the lucky eleven winners paid €2,500 per month but your board and food is free as are all the travel costs.

There will be twenty international destinations in the trip – Brazil, Uruguay, Argentina, Chile, Peru, Colombia, Costa Rica, Portugal, Spain, Holland, Germany, Czech Republic, Greece, Thailand, Cambodia, Malaysia, Indonesia, Japan, Australia and South Africa – where the travellers will get to know different societies and cultures, while they do volunteer work in local non-governmental organizations (NGO) of different countries.

but you will go to Cambodia

There is a catch. You have to be between 21 and 39 which I am a little disappointed by since I have just exceeded the upper age limit! You also have to be free to travel from January to near the end of November 2019. Apart from that it is ideally suited to gap year students and those who can arm-twist employers to let them have a sabbatical! Applicants must also be responsible, empathetic, thoughtful, tolerant, communicative, proactive, flexible, know English to at least intermediate level and wish to work as a group. The participants chosen for 2019 will be of different nationalities and will share their experience of the journey on social media.

2019 will be the second year that such a journey will take place.  António Dias, the head of World Life Experience says, “the first edition, with already two months of travel and work done, is a success and a great life experience for the group of eleven participants.” He continues: “The group has been in six different cities in five countries, and worked on reforestation, permaculture projects geared toward environmental sustainability, participated in workshops with refugees and cooperated in reconstruction projects. As the participants interact with people from the places they go, they become aware of the social, environmental and cultural diversity that exists in the world”.

and South Africa.

The total stay in each city will be for two weeks and will involve a program oriented towards social work, through integration with local NGOs but it won’t be all work satisfying though that may be. There will be a leisure component aimed at tourism and cultural activities. The 11 participants will have 6 days to explore each city, 6 days to volunteer with local organizations and 3 free days to rest in each destination.

World Life Experience, based in the Portuguese capital of Lisbon, launched in 2017 and is a sustainability and social responsibility project that combines social objectives with a financial component that makes it a business model with economic viability.
