The ultimate honeymoon

Ciobo could have suggested Fraser Island as a place to visit…

This is what the Australians are offering Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.

Steve Ciobo who happens to be the Australian Minister for Tourism, dashed off a letter (we only have the press release) to the couple suggesting that they should honeymoon in Australia. Calling it the “ultimate honeymoon” Australia is one of the first destinations ( I expect there will be plenty of others) to suggest that the couple spend some time  visiting their countries. Prince Harry has already been to Australia so he can probably make his own mind up as to whether he thinks they both would like to spend more time there.

…or the Purnululu National Park in the Kimberley’s.

Apart from suggesting Australia as a suitable pre-wedding destination, (I assume he means they could have their stag and hen celebrations there) Ciobo even suggests places to stay on their honeymoon. He wroteTourism Australia has recommended Australia’s luxury lodges including Tasmania’s Saffire Freycinet, Longitude 131 in the Northern Territory where the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have previously stayed, Southern Ocean Lodge on Kangaroo Island, just off the coast of South Australia and Queensland’s Lizard Island, uniquely located on the Great Barrier Reef.”

If those don’t interest the pair then the tourism authority, Ciobo says, will happily design an itinerary for them.

Other than saying “Australia has it all,” he generally writes in the abstract about the beaches, the outback and the gastronomy offerings. He doesn’t specifically say that the couple should definitely see Bondi Beach, the Whitsundays or Suggan Buggan. If the tourism minister can’t suggest specific spots to visit who can?

Despite being first out of the traps in offering a honeymoon in Australia, Mr Ciobo has missed a trick or two in not mentioning that May is a good time to visit Australia as it is Autumn. It is Good Food Month so there are discounts off participating restaurants although I doubt they are concerned about saving a dollar or two. Sydney has the biggest light festival in the world that month – Vivid Sydney – and it’s the Ord Valley Muster in the Kimberly’s in the north west of Western Australia.

Which country is next with a suggestion for a honeymoon stay?
