ChocolArt Tuebingen 2014

Germany in December usually brings to mind only one thing – Christmas markets.

But if you were to visit the German city of Tübingen between the 5th and 10th of December it would mean only one thing – that were probably a chocoholic! This is when the chocolART festival is held drawing visitors not just from Germany but from many neighbouring countries.

A hundred or more of the best chocolatiers from around the world come to show how they transform the cocoa bean into any variety of products.

The main square of the city is covered with large, white tents and in each, visitors can find. chocolate in all different shapes, sizes, and flavours: handmade chocolate bars, chocolate figurines, chocolate creams, chocolate-making equipment, chocolate drinks, pralines, truffles, nougat and even chocolate beers. There is also a wide variety of flavours, from sweet to bitter and from mild to spicy. There is exotic chocolate, organic chocolate, as well as fair trade, vegan and sugar free chocolate.

In the chocolateROOM on Tübingen’s marketplace, top confectioners create intricate chocolate sculptures  and at chocolate workshops, children learn about the secret of making chocolate. Local restaurants join in with what is known as the chocoKULINARIUM. In reality this is just an excuse for the to create imaginative menus based around chocolate.

Tübingen isn’t just the focus point for cocoa lovers during chocolART. Tübingen Erleben, the chocolART organisers, are also creating The Chocolate Way, a pan-European project that links chocolate-oriented European cities. The idea is to transform chocolate into an experience that brings chocolate culture and history closer to the consumer.
