Amazing Thailand Tourism Year 2018

The Thai appeal

Next year may be six weeks away but many countries have already launched their campaign ideas for next year.

Not a country to do things by halves, Thailand organised a procession through the streets of its capital, Bangkok, in order to proclaim that 2018 would be “Amazing Thailand Tourism Year 2018”

What does this mean?  According to the Deputy Prime Minister, Tanasak Patimapragorn, the promotion would major on sustainable, quality tourism in line with the “Sufficiency Economy Philosophy.” The campaign spotlights thirteen different sectors of which sports, gastronomy, maritime tourism, weddings and honeymoons, medical and wellness, community-based tourism, leisure, green tourism, night tourism, and logistics are relevant to the holidaymaker.

You could argue that there is nothing special about what Thailand is concentrating on but the launch was spectacular. There were six separate parades, each of which represented an aspect of Thai tourism. The first has a Lotus Goddess which is the symbol of the promotion in 2018 and which is the emblem for harmony and happiness.

The second considered the architecture of different regions of the country whilst the third concentrated on gastronomy. The fourth looked at Thai festivals and the fifth encompassed the major sporting events scheduled for next year. The final parade pointed out the role of Thais as hosts – welcoming, friendly, hospitable and warm being the key features and which should add up to being the perfect hosts for visitors.

If the year lives up to the launch then Thailand will have lots of happy holidaymakers at the end of their stay!
