You vote, we fly

Eurowings tail-fin

This is the slogan behind a promotion for the German airline, Eurowings which has decided to let us, the travellers, vote on which would be the new route.

They have shortlisted ten for us to choose, two of which – Belfast and Shannon – would allow some of us to fly to the airline’s base of Cologne/Bonn. The others are Bergen in Norway, Biarritz in France, Brac in Croatia, Castellón in Spain, Mostar in southern Bosnia, Podgorica in Montenegro and two Italian destinations – Trapani in Sicily and Trieste in the north.

The assumption is that all these routes will be from Cologne/Bonn

Oliver Wagner, the boss of Eurowings says, “Our customers are going to decide where we should fly to – no other airline has ever done this. ‘You vote, we fly’ shows yet again how close we are to our customers.”

To encourage you to help the airline decide, fifty of the people who vote will win a flight for two people to the winning destination. The website for your vote is Don’t be put off by seeing German on the left hand side of the page and be deterred. The page is split into German on the left and side and English on the right.

I would imagine that the boffins at Eurowings have already looked at each of the ten destinations and decided that there is an economic case to be made for each of them. The costs of operating to and from each of them is probably similar so Eurowings could have decided by just deciding on one. But wher’s the fun in that? But by turning it into a competition they get publicity that would cost a great deal more.

My choice would be Trieste but I might be biased – we have a story coming up later this month about the city!
