hige Christmas card for Guiness Book of Record attempt

The big Christmas card signature attempt

The Guinness World Record for the highest number of signatures on a Christmas card is 13,288. The National Memorial Arboretum in Staffordshire hopes to beat that and at the same time raise even greater awareness of the arboretum and its link with the armed forces as a remembrance centre for all of those who have fought in conflicts both in the past and today.

The card, which is 2.1 metres high and 4.5 metres wide when opened out, features a giant poppy set against a background of more than 800 photographs taken at the Arboretum. The card has space for 20,923 signatures. The card will be travelling around the Midlands and London over the next couple of months, where it will be signed by children and adults from a variety of organisations including schools, shops and businesses.

The card was launched last weekend at the annual Ride to the Wall – an event where thousands of motor cyclists converge on the arboretum from all parts of the country and present a sight that has to be seen to be believed. There are also some of the most generous people in their support of the armed forces and probably will have raised over £300,000 for the Royal British Legion.

The card will be travelling around the Midlands and London over the next couple of months, where it will be signed by children and adults from a variety of organisations including schools, shops and businesses. But why stop there? Virgin Trains are assisting by taking the card south to London. Couldn’t other train companies take it to other parts of the UK so the potential number of signatures is increased? As a reminder to buy your poppy and support the Royal British legion, it seems an obvious idea. Unless that thought is on the stocks for next year and another attempt!
