The Welsh dream ends

rp_Welsh-Flag-wales-1974164-602-402-300x200.jpgFor Wales, the dream ended tonight.  Unfortunately, Portugal beat the unfancied Wales and fans are heading back from Lyon clutching their tickets, programmes, and souvenirs.

In fact Wales did wonderfully well in progressing this far, further than they have managed before. From that point-of-view, it has been a success and there will be a heck of a welcome for them when they return home.

The National Library of Wales – not a body many would associate with football – holds the Football Association of Wales archive. It is appealing for Wales fans with anything relating to the team’s historic Euro 2016 campaign to get in touch. The library is eager to collect any ephemera relating to the story of Wales in the European Championship, including posters, leaflets, programmes, tickets, photographs or anything else – within reason.

So if you were in Lyon tonight or any of the fans zones, your local pub or just sitting at home and you have anything related to the Welsh footballing success in getting as far as they did, don’t throw them away.  You can send them to the National Library of Wales, Penglais Rd, Aberystwyth SY23 3BU or, for more information,  contact Elin-Hâf Williams at the library on Tel: 01970 632534

Let’s hope it won’t be another half century before they achieve the same success again.
