Gory Castle – for the new group, Heritage Seekers?

To make it easier to decide what aspect of Jersey would appeal to you, the tourist board, Visit Jersey, has come up with a novel idea- profiling.

Branded as “Escape to Jersey,” it consists of answering a series of personality based questions about the type of holiday experience they’d like to have. These include:

  • Five stars or Under the stars
  • Relaxed or Energetic
  • Beach Cafe or Michelin Star
  • Party time or Time for you
  • Bargain Hunter or Buy it anyway

This will generate a unique one minute video of their own “virtual” Jersey experience which can then be shared with friends and family using #EscapeToJersey.

The idea is that this video will reflect what appeals to you by matching it with footage that has been shot by a team of local video photographers. If you answer the questions today, the video might be different from next week because those same photographers will be out working throughout the year so they will be updating the options that are available. I can see the videos becoming longer than one minute before the photographers finish their task.

But what if the person wants a mixture eg liking luxury accommodation but still wanting to be under the stars? There is glamping on the island so, theoretically, everyone should be catered for if not immediately, then within time.

But is this any more than a bit of fun because people love to see what sort of category they fall into. Not according to Adam Caerlewy-Smith. The head of marketing for Visit Jersey says that the idea reflects the way that the tourism industry is undergoing great change and this promotion was a way to challenge people’s perceptions of Jersey.
