The 19 day, Hannover party

A crazy crossing. Who can resist water and fun?

One of the largest parties in Germany has just begun. The Maschsee Lake Festival near Hannover is yet another of the German events that I have been mentioning over the last year that few Brits know about.

That may have something to do with the fact that the website is only in German and may deter non-German speakers from going and enjoying the fun.

This one has a food theme as it takes visitors around the world in 19 days. The festival will feature fine cuisine from the Far East, Italy, Mexico, Spain and the Caribbean, and Ireland although that will include drinking as well. Personally I think that the Irish have just found another way of opening yet another Irish bar in their quest to leave no part of the world without one!

There is more than just food and drink. No modern festival would be considered these days without free open-air concerts but there are also activities on the lake, a programme for kids and diverse cabaret acts. Finally there is a fireworks display in the skies above Maschsee Lake on the last day of the festival.

As always, the true star of the festival will be Maschsee Lake itself, with countless events guaranteed to draw everyone’s attention: as well as the Crazy Crossing, there will be a torchlight swim and the NKR Duck Fun(d)racing.

As far as the music is concerned, Maschsee Lake Festival has acts from a variety of countries: on the Maschsee Stage, for example, Choni Cia. Flamenca and Soneros de Verdad are guaranteed to create a holiday mood. As for the Irish, they have Temple Bar with bands such as The Keltics and The Brogues.
