Ynyshir Hall – which won in two categories

Late last month, the winners of the National Tourism Awards for Wales were announced.

As readers know, Just about Travel tends to highlight these events because it usually involves tat most important of visitor requirements – customer service or satisfaction. But not this time since there is no category. Hopefully this will change in future years.

In the category of Best Day Out, the award went to the Folly Farm Adventure Park and Zoo whereas the Best Visitor Welcome was won by Monmouthshire Cottages. The Best Event – Large went to the Wales Rally GB and the award in the small event category went to the Dinfwr Literature Festival. There are no awards for best attraction either large or small and, apart from the Best Business Tourism award which went to the Celtic Manor Resort, most of the rest of the categories went to eateries or accommodation providers.

In the large restaurant category for the best place to eat, the winner was Sosban which is in Llanelli and the small restaurant category was won by Ynyshir Hall which was also named  the best place to stay in the hotel category. In the café section, The Bakers’ Table at Talgarth Mill in Powys won and The Bee Inn at Eglwysbach in the Conwy Valley, North Wales, was named as the best pub in which to eat.

For guest accommodation, the best place to stay was voted as Glangwili mansion and the best self-catering place to stay was Clydey Cottages Pembrokeshire . In the category covering holiday parks, touring and camping parks, the award was won by Parc Gwyliau Pen y Garth Lodge Park and in the hostel category it was Wye Valley Canoes.
As with all awards, we should point out that not all attractions, events or accommodation providers entered so the winners were restricted by which ones signed up. Therefore out of the 2,000 plus organisations involved in  tourism in wales, don’t dismiss those which didn’t win awards.
