The Devonshire Arms Hotel & Spa in the Yorkshire Dales

After a day sightseeing in the Yorkshire Dales, the fresh air and long walks require a slap up meal to end the day ona perfect note. And as the days get shorter, the quality of that food becimes even more important as it  -and a little dram –  remove the chills of the outside world.

So the decision of the The Devonshire Arms Hotel & Spa which borders the Bolton Abbey Estate of the Dukes of Devonshire in one of the pettiest parts of the north to hold a Food and Wine Week in the first week of December seems ideally timed.

Now the head chef, Adam Smith, has gathered together some of the best and well-known chefs in the north to come to The DEV ( as it is commonly called) to create this special week.

Andrew Pern from The Star Inn, who recently regained a Michelin star, Mark Birchall from L’enclume, who holds a Michelin star, Nigel Haworth from Northcote Manor in Lancashire, James Mackenzie from the Michelin star The Pipe & Glass and Tim Bilton from The Spiced Pear to name a few.

The hotel, dating back to the early seventeenth century, was enhanced by the the 5th Duke of Devonshire, who realised the importance of visitors to the area and ensured many miles of footpaths were established so that visitors could admire the splendid views.  And that encouraged more people to stay there.  And Adam Smith will be hoping the same happens with his Food and Wine Week.
