Arran – one possibility for your holiday in the Scottish isles

Ayrshire and Arran on the west coast of Scotland have always been popular holiday destinations. Whilst southerly readers might associate the area with golf, northern readers will think of the coast and the beach resorts such as Saltcoats.

To highlight the watersports fo the area, the local tourist authority has created a single website – Watersportscoast.com – that provides detailed information about 12 different watersport activities around Ayrshire and Arran including yachting, dinghy sailing, kite surfing and sea kayaking.

Unknown to many people is that fact that because this coastal area is Located on the Gulf Stream, the waters are surprisingly warm (with some reporting them to be warmer than off the coast of South Africa) and palm trees flourish in some areas as a result.

The website provides watersports mapping information about over 60 key coastal access points, beaches, slipways, marina facilities, and moorings making it a first for Scotland. Tide times, weather forecasts, nautical charts, nautical mile plotting, and truly interactive mapping, are all available.

Other than water activities and the golf I mentioned earlier, the region offers the visitor a range of great experiences, spanning rural, coastal, historic and built environments; world class golf, sailing, culture and heritage; high quality food, drink and hospitality; beautiful islands, marine and countryside.
