What do you like to do on holiday?
It really depends on the season and on the sport but generally, I like to visit very adventurous places. I love so many places from the heart of the Lake District to the depths of the Amazon.

Where did you last go?
Flaine and Chamonix in the French Alps for skiing.

Do you know where you’re going this year?
Yes – I am off to Venezuela, Western USA, New Zealand, Hong Kong, Orkney Isles and Antarctica.

Of all the places you’ve been to, which was your favourite and why?
YosemiteValleyView

I love the Yosemite Valley in California for rock climbing. It’s the Mecca of the sport and an unbelievably beautiful example of nature’s work.

Which destination do you wish to travel to, but haven’t yet been?
There are places in the Sahara Desert I would like to explore, in southern Algeria and Libya. However it’s a little bit too unstable for my liking at the moment.

In your own country, what would you recommend tourists see that isn’t in the travel guides?
There’s a magical place in Little Langdale (Lakes) called the Cathedral Quarry. It’s in low valleys and close to Ambleside (ie easy access). My wife I were married there and it features in a scene from Snow White and the Woodsman. It is like a set in a fantasy.

How do you plan your trips?
Some of my ‘holidays’ tend to be fairly extreme and require in-depth knowledge and information. Generally I like personal recommendations but often research a lot online.

How often do you go away?
About once a month.

Who do you travel with?
Many different people. My wife and baby daughter, climbing partners, alone..

Where do you see tourism in your country, in 10 years?
lake-district
The Lakes has a booming tourist industry : I’d like to see the adventurous activities in the region made more accessible to people without having to pay a fortunate – like in France.
