ScotRail and Club 55

By | Category: Travel news

Yes, the popular promotion for those aged over 55 returns as from tomorrow and runs up until November 30th. As yet there is no word from ArrivaTrains Wales or TransPennine Express about whether they will offer a similar promotion this winter.

The £19 return fare hasn’t gone up since the Spring and, once again, it is valid at all 345 ScotRail stations plus Berwick-upon-Tweed in the east and Carlisle in the west. There are the usual rules in place that you can’t arrive in the major city stations of Aberdeen, Dundee, Edinburgh or Glasgow before 09.30 nor leave Edinburgh or Glasgow between 16.40 and 18.15.

There is a Club 55 Premier ticket at £35 return but given that there is first class only on trains connecting Aberdeen and Inverness; Aberdeen and Edinburgh/Glasgow and Inverness and Edinburgh/Glasgow is it worth it?

You can travel on CrossCountry, TransPennine Express and Virgin train services within Scotland but there is a restriction on some Cross Country services at the weekend so check the website first or at you ticket office. Tickets are not valid at any time on East Coast or Caledonian Sleeper Trains.

To remind readers, you don’t have to book these tickets in advance, just turn up on the day.
