Visit York keeps visitors ‘wrapped up’ this New Year

By | Category: Travel news

This month, visitors to York will be able to enjoy a cosy night out at bars and restaurants around the city. Inspired by the outdoor-living café culture in Northern European cities, the new ‘York Wrapped Up’ evenings will encourage patrons to relax outside, while staying warm under specially created Visit York branded blankets.

As the New Year sales begin, visitors are expected to flock to the city to stock up on bargains and, tapping into the demand for outdoor dining, made all the more popular in recent years in colder cities like Copenhagen and Oslo, the blankets initiative will encourage visitors to embrace an al fresco lifestyle during the winter period.

Cosy red blankets have been issued to selected bars and outdoor cafes across the city and Visit York hopes that the opportunity to sit outside in relative warmth during the cold winter months, combined with the city’s appeal as a renowned shopping destination, will be more than enough to get travellers to take a second look at Britain’s Most Beautiful City and get ‘wrapped-up’ in York this January.

Determined to outshine other European city break destinations, such as Paris, Milan, and Berlin, the city is aiming to entice visitors from London, the South East, the Midlands and Scotland to look at York as the perfect winter short break destination.

Gillian Cruddas MBE, Chief Executive of Visit York said: “The winter months are a great time to experience all that is cool and creative about York. By making the journey part of the whole York experience, we’re confident that visitors will feel ‘Wrapped Up in York’ the minute they leave Kings Cross.”

“Blankets are popular in restaurants and bars across northern Europe and York is proud to be the first British city to extend this particular type of warm welcome to our visitors. Whether you’re looking to get some amazing bargains in the sales, want to experience Britain’s best gastro city or visit York’s world class attractions, we’re encouraging everyone to come to York and get wrapped up in the city.”

To promote the new initiative, the city has launched a special ‘York Wrapped Up’ offer which includes:
* Two night’s accommodation, including breakfast and a FREE *dinner for two or a Yorkshire Hamper on your first night of stay in selected York hotels, B&Bs and self-catering (*dinner at hotels only, B&B’s and self-catering properties offer the Yorkshire hamper)
