Banff, Birmingham and snow

By | Category: Travel news

The British Ski + Board Show kicked off this morning at Birmingham’s NEC. It coincides with the opening of the ski season in Mt Norquay in Banff, Canada.
And today’s murky weather has started light snow dropping in the Cairngorms and Glencoe as well. In the US, the Colorado ski season began just a week ago and we’ve already heard that it has been snowing on-and-off in Denver, Colorado’s capital, for the last two days. St Moritz has had flurries and Tignes has some moderate snowfalls forecast for Saturday night. Kirchdorf in Austria has heavy snow forecast as has Białka Tatrzańska in Poland and Livigno in Italy. Why there’s even snow on the Kids Snow Trail at the NEC!
So will this be a good season for skiing, snowboarding and sledding? You are likely to be as accurate as anyone at the moment. Most avid skiers are hoping for a great year as are the resorts, hoteliers and chalet owners. But as you look at the different views by the weather forecasters it still looks like a case of you pays your money and takes your choice.
So if I can’t answer that question for you, I can at least tell you that at the NEC, the thoughts of the people going there were optimistic. They also seemed to be an optimistic bunch in terms of winning some of the prices on offer.
And one of those is to the area where skiing opened today, Banff’s Lake Louise!
