Abu Dhabi revealed as ultimate beach holiday destination

By | Category: Travel news

After completing a three week 30,000 mile trip in search of the perfect beach holiday destination, ebookers’ Beach Reporters have announced the results, with Abu Dhabi claiming the top spot.

On 6 July 2012, Darren Riley and Nicola Rawson from Southampton embarked on a trip with a difference as ebookers’ Beach Reporters, travelling Europe, the UAE and Egypt in search of the ultimate beach escape. Blogging and tweeting about their experience along the way, the couple kept followers up-to-date with photography and reviews of the places they visited, before giving the crown to the St Regis resort in Abu Dhabi.

Abu Dhabi's corniche

As well as ticking all the Beach Reporters’ boxes, Abu Dhabi is proving to be a new, undiscovered gem amongst Brits as ebookers.com searches to this culture rich emirate have a year-to-date increase of over a third (37 per cent) from the same period last year. Similarly, searches to other destinations favoured by the Beach Reporters have soared since the beginning of the year compared to 2011, including Dubrovnik (58 per cent) and Mallorca (39 per cent).

St Regis, Abu Dhabi

ebookers Beach Reporter Nicola Rawson, comments: “Our task – to find the ultimate beach resort – has drawn to a close and our winner was without a doubt the stunning natural beach at the St Regis Hotel, Saadiyat Island, Abu Dhabi. It has it all – peace, serenity, soft white sand, gently shelving warm waters, privacy, comfort and sophistication. When we arrived in Abu Dhabi, we knew it was special and it quickly became our ultimate beach destination.”

Al Zarouni, UK Country Manager at Abu Dhabi Tourism & Culture Authority said: “It is great that Abu Dhabi has been chosen as the ultimate beach destination. Abu Dhabi boasts 400 kilometres of pristine coastline and 200 natural islands and one of the world’s most modern cities blending a buzzing lifestyle with breath-taking sights including the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque.”
