What do you like to do on holiday?
I like to head to the Bay of Islands, north of Auckland, in New Zealand to relax. It’s an idyllic spot boasting great beaches and lots of seafood.

Thrill seekers will be in seventh heaven in Queenstown

Where did you last go?
Queenstown, a leading tourist resort town in the South Island of New Zealand. They call it the adventure capital of the world, as it has something for every adventure seeker from buggy jumping and jet boating to whitewater rafting, river surfing and canyon swinging.

Do you know where you’re going this year?
Yes – I am off to Thailand for the first time and can’t wait.

Of all the places you’ve been to, what was your favourite and why?
Cloud 9, a luxurious private villa situated on a clifftop above the historic Bay of Islands town, Russell. The property is blessed with stunning views across both the Bay of Islands  and the Pacific Ocean, as well as a gorgeous infinity pool. See: http://www.chelsey.co.nz/life-and-style/travel/cloud-9-one-step-away-from-heaven-one-of-new-zealands-must-stay-havens

Vietnam

Which destination do you wish to travel to, but haven’t yet been?
There are two: Vietnam, the colourful South East Asian country that is coming into its own, and sunny Spain.

In your own country, what would you recommend tourists see that isn’t in the travel guides?
The West Coast of New Zealand’s South Island. I guaranteed that visitors to  the country known by Maori as The Land of the Long White Cloud will love it: it’s very rugged, majestic and so removed from the world!

How do you plan your holiday?
I go online and spend a lot of time checking out the best accommodation, ease of access etc. It pays off.

How often do you go away?
Typically five to six times a year.

Who do you travel with?
If it’s a travel writing trip, I’m usually alone as it is work.

Where do you see tourism in your country, in 10 years?
Growing rapidly as the tyranny of distance through air travel improves.
