Big Apple beckons Brits away from event filled summer

New York is the most searched for holiday destination by Brits looking to get away during the Diamond Jubilee long weekend and the three weeks of summer sports according to travel search site, Kayak.

The site, which compares hundreds of travel sites at once, reveals that, based on search data from January to May 2012 for travel during the Jubilee weekend and the three weeks of sport beginning at the end of July, most Brits are looking stateside for a respite from the crowds and patriotic celebrations. New York City boasts the biggest search share of 4.1 per cent and 3.7 per cent respectively when compared to all European, North American and Asian destinations included.

The European destinations of Barcelona, Rome and Istanbul were the next most popular for Brits looking to take advantage of the extra long bank holiday weekend in June with 2.9 per cent, 2.0 per cent and 2.0 per cent respective search shares. 

And, as the much anticipated sporting bonanza arrives in time for the height of summer, Ibiza and Malaga are the next most popular holiday hot spots where Brits can seek out that tan and be away from the hustle and bustle of the biggest sporting event of the year!
