Britain’s insatiable appetite for festivals

By | Category: Travel rumblings

The UK has been gripped by festival fever. Last month we celebrated British cheese week and National cruise week (one event that we could, pardon the pun, get onboard with). This week, London restaurant week kicked off and for those who didn’t fill their boots, next week will see the capital go crazy about cocktails. Meanwhile the country as a whole will be piling on the pounds with the advent of Chocolate week – seven days devoted to the wonderful world of chocolate.

The UK’s top chocolatiers and chocolate companies are marking the occasion by hosting talks, tastings, demonstrations and samplings as well as creating exclusive products, new launches, offers, chocolate meals, cocktails and recipes. Phew! I feel slightly sick just thinking about it, as I do all of these events.

There now seems to be something every week and the relentless onslaught has simply ensured that I have lost my appetite for themed events. But maybe it’s just me. What do you think of the aforementioned events? Are they a good way of getting Britain’s economy going again or merely marketing gone mad? Let’s hear your thoughts!
