Lets go local!

By | Category: Travel news

Earlier this month, The Travel Bookshop – made famous by Hugh Grant in the film Notting Hill – ceased trading, despite a string of support from celebrities including American actor Alec Baldwin. Now word reaches us that Gaby’s Jewish Deli on Charing Cross Road –  a cheap and characterful café loved by the likes of Michael Gambon and Vanessa Redgrave (both have both been spotted here, refuelling pre or post west end performance) – looks set to close its doors.

The closure is likely to come, despite an online petition from members of the public – saddened that yet another small independent business is on its way out.
The imminent demise of Gabi’s Deli – where owner Gaby Elyahou has been serving salt beef on rye to aactors and audiences alike since 1965 – is upsetting. However  unless we all start boycott the big chains, it can only be a matter of time before lots more local, independent businesses sadly go under. It’s a cliché, we know, but actions really do speak louder than words
