Daybreak does Benidorm

Daybreak, the ITV breakfast programme that few of us watch has decided the holiday season is here. From Monday it is having a slot for a two days called “Daybreak does Benidorm.”
Irene, who writes the Benidorm All Year Round blog has contacted us. On her blog you can get the background to what Daybreak has been looking at since the team arrived last Wednesday. It looks like broadcasting starts at 6am our time for you early risers.
Benidorm is almost seared into the souls of British holidaymakers. It was the first package holiday destination courtesy of a progressive mayor back in the 1950’s. By the time of the seventies the Carry On film and TV series had proven that Benidorm became a staple thought in our minds as a summer break destination. It might have been called Els Bells or Coast Cheapa in the comedy skits but we recognised in it something of where we had visited.
When Kaye wrote about Benidorm for CD-Traveller a few months ago, it quickly become one of our most read articles that month and you are regularly going back to it. To follow what’s happening in Benidorm on a regular basis, follow Irene’s blog.
Benidorm, the ITV series that began a while ago, has re-awakened interest in the destination amongst those who might have looked further afield for their breaks. The ratings have been good for ITV and the cast have been picked up by the comedians as part of their stand-up routines, a sure sign of entry into everyday culture. Just like the town itself. The interest has resulted in an upswing in bookings
No doubt the ITV programme is hoping its daily broadcast from Benidorm might attract some extra ratings for it as well
