Free Weekend Breaks for Two

They are just some of the prizes on offer tomorrow at The Travel & Leisure Show which is taking place at the Five Lakes Resort in Maldon, Essex. It’s free to go to the show and the organizers even provide a free bus collecting you from Witham station from 9.30 onwards. You can see the web link in our events column.
Most of the consumer travel shows are big affairs like Destinations or The Holiday Show. The great thing about this very successful show is that it is local. So many times you have told us that you would like to have suggestions for a day out. Local tourism shows like this one are ideal for that purpose and that may explain why this particular show is so successful. Most of the attractions and places to go are on your doorstep.
Originally it was designed by Visit Essex as a show for group visits like sports clubs, social groups and schools but it has grown from there. Exhibitors are pleased because, as one told me last year, this show attracts locals who are genuinely interested in going out for the day or the weekend and this enables the smaller attractions to be represented because it is affordable for them.
This year about 1,000 people are expected to visit. There will be almost 100 exhibitors including 26 new ones. It isn’t only attractions and destinations in East Anglia that come though that is the core area. Some find it worthwhile to come from Devon and Ireland as well. BBC Essex will be there throughout the day as people can pick up suggestions for days out and holidays. Don’t forget the Taste of Essex part where there will be some of the best produce in Essex available to taste including those jams made by Wilkins of Tiptree.
And as for prizes? Everyone who is there between 2.30 and 3.30 should stand a good chance of picking up a free momento of the day. Just remember to collect your voucher as you go through the door.
