What do you like to do on holiday?
Anything adventurous – I’m into adventure travel (bungee jumping, white-water rafting, canyoning, scuba diving, 4 wheel driving etc) as I like to try new things and challenge myself.

Where did you last go?
Cape Town. It’s an amazing place with awesome mountains, world-class beaches, excellent surf spots and game reserves as well as cultural rewards in the shape of the city itself.

Do you know where you’re going next year?
Right now, I have absolutely no idea but I can promise you this: it will be somewhere with beaches. Hopefully it will be Zanzibar, with its stunning stretches of sand, for my honeymoon.

Of all the places you’ve been to, what was your favourite and why?
Cape Town stood out for me as you can effectively combine a number of holidays in just one trip. I also have a soft spot for Florida – again it’s all about the overall holiday experience. It’s a cliché but there really is something for everyone in Florida.

Which destination do you wish to travel to but haven’t been?
Without a doubt, it’s Australia. I’m not sure why but I do definitely feel drawn to the land down under.

Rwanda's capital: the city of Kigali

In your own country, what would you recommend tourists see that isn’t in the travel guides?
I’d tell them to get off the beaten track and see how real Rwandans live.  Visit a village and ask if you can make a contribution and observe the preparation of a traditional African meal. Tourists will probably be taken to a local market to purchase ingredients before being shown how to chop firewood and make the meal. Holidaymakers will learn far more about Rwanda this way and will feel better knowing that their visit is actually helping their hosts.

How often do you go away?
Typically three times a year but it’s often work related; every year I travel to Bali and London for exhibitions and events such as World Travel Market (WTM).

Dream travel companion?
My wife to be.

Thanks Patrick! Next month we put the questions to Visit Florida’s Chief Operating Officer, Chris Thompson, so don’t forget to keep clicking back.
