Heritage Open Days

By | Category: Travel rumblings

It’s that time of the year again when thousands of buildings are let open free of charge for us to wander through them. Some are never open apart from on these days.

The events began yesterday and run until Sunday and range from the old Hippodrome in Great Yarmouth to a pagoda in Birmingham. There are 3500 sites across England that will be open and my own local council has 80 events being stages across the 3 days including open days, lectures and things for the children.

In Scotland and Wales, the situation is slightly different. Here it occurs every weekend in September whilst in Northern Ireland it is just on this coming weekend.

Outside the UK other events are happening as well. 49 different countries partake in European Heritage Days ( I didn’t know there were 49 countries in Europe)

So make the most of it. Its not everyday we get something for nothing The website with all the details is www.heritageopendays.org.uk and your local council website should have a list of what’s haoppening near you.
